Senegal forward Boulaye Dia could be given a fine opportunity to start for Lazio who travel to strugglers Fiorentina in the week 32 Serie A fixture on Monday.
The absences of Daniel Maldini and Adam Marušić has presented Dia with a chance to be roped into the starting eleven.
The 29-year-old who is often used in rotation since the start of the season, finds himself with a real opportunity to gain more playing time.
Between injuries, poor form, and stiff competition, the reigning African champion has yet to establish himself as a starter.
In Serie A, he has made 20 appearances, only 11 of them starts, for an average of around 49 minutes per match.
This limited playing time reflects both the competition and tactical choices that haven’t always been in his favor.
But the situation could change with Maldini sidelined by tendonitis and Marušić suffering from a muscle injury, several key players are leaving gaps to be filled.
Dia could be given more responsibility in upcoming matches which will pave the way for him to establish himself in the attacking hierarchy.
Currently on loan with Lazio, his future will be decided at the end of the season. The player, still under contract with Salernitana until 2027, could use this period to definitively convince the Roman club’s management.
