Mozambique’s União Desportiva do Songo (UD Songo FC) goalkeeper Germano Omar Nhacume has shared the pain of being sidelined by an injury for over a year without accessing medical treatment.
The veteran shot-stopper has been sidelined since November 2024 when he suffered a knee injury while playing for the reigning Mozambican league champions.

In a statement posted on his Facebook page on Friday, 16 April 2026, the 36-year-old accused UD Songo’s management of failing to pay for the cost of his knee surgery.
Nhacume added that his efforts to have UD Songo management address the concerns have fallen on deaf ears.
“Since then, I’ve been living with this injury, awaiting the activation of the sports health insurance that I’m entitled to — provided for in the contract with the club — so I can have surgery and, therefore, return to playing what I love most: football,” reads the statement.
“During this period, I have not only dealt with the limitations imposed by the injury, but I have also maintained the expectation of seeing the situation resolved, fuelled by the successive promises made by the leaders of the Songo Sports Union, which so far have not been fulfilled.
“It’s important to mention that, throughout this time, I have sought in various ways to establish contact with the UNIÃO SPORTS DE SONGO through the executive director Marcos Cossa and the sports director, Paulito Trigo, with a view to safeguarding my rights, without any success.”
Nhacume added that his efforts to seek the intervention of the Mozambican Football Federation (FMF) have not paid dividends either.
“I have come to appeal to the Mozambican Football Federation (FMF) expecting institutional intervention. However, this diligence has not produced results either. And today (17/04/26) I will submit a formal document to FMF again,” the letter adds.
“Faced with this scenario and feeling helpless, by the institutions in my country — finding myself prevented for almost a year and a half from exercising my professional activity and being responsible for the upkeep of a family unit, including minors —, I have no other choice but to make this situation public.”
The keeper stressed that he deserves the support of the Mozambique league champions as he has a running contract with them until November 2026.
In reaction, FMF head of marketing and communication Stenor Tomo told Pan-Africa Football that he needs time to establish if indeed the player brought the matter to the attention of the federation.
Nhacume won the league championship with Ferroviário da Beira in 2023. However, the club did not renew his contract the following season. He eventually joined UD Songo.
His career also saw him joining clubs such as Ferroviário de Gaza, Ferroviário de Maputo, Ferroviário de Nampula, Ferroviário de Nacala and Associação Desportiva de Vilankulo.
