KCCA FC reignited their Uganda Premier League title charge with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Kitara FC under the floodlights at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Friday evening.
The decisive moment arrived just before halftime, when Joel Sserunjogi capitalized on a Saidi Mayanja assist to powerfully net the game’s only goal.

His composed finish ensured the Kasasiro Boys carried a slender but crucial lead into the break in what had otherwise been a tightly contested affair.
Coming into the match on the back of a setback against SC Villa, KCCA showed resilience and intent, grinding out a result that lifts them to second place on the table with 48 points, now just four adrift of leaders Vipers SC.
Kitara, meanwhile, slip to third with 47 points, tightening the race at the summit.
Clear-cut opportunities were scarce in the opening stages, with both sides cautious in their approach.
However, a costly error by Living Kabon in the 44th minute proved decisive. Saidi Mayanja reacted swiftly to regain possession and squared the ball into the box, where Sserunjogi unleashed a powerful strike to break the deadlock.
Kitara emerged for the second half with renewed urgency and came agonizingly close to leveling matters in the 76th minute, only for Jasper Aheebwa’s effort to crash against the crossbar.
KCCA nearly doubled their advantage moments later, but Mayanja was denied by goalkeeper Meddie Kibirige after a swift attacking move.
Despite late pressure from the visitors, KCCA remained organized at the back and saw out the match to secure all three points in front of their home crowd.
With their Uganda Cup journey already concluded, KCCA’s attention now fully turns to sustaining momentum in the league title race. They next travel to face Entebbe UPPC on April 21, while Kitara will look to bounce back at home against Calvary a day later.
