Zambia U-17 Women’s national team head coach Carol Kanyemba says the 2-0 away victory over Rwanda has given them good momentum ahead of the return leg, but cautioned her side will not underestimate their opponents as it is far from over.

Zambia made a bright start to the match, taking the lead as early as the 6th minute through Precious Mwewa putting the visitors ahead.
The Copper Princesses doubled their advantage in the 19th minute from a Grace Phiri goal giving them a strong position heading to the half time.
In the second half, Zambia created several scoring opportunities but failed to convert, while Rwanda also pushed forward in search of a goal, with neither side able to find the back of the net.
Speaking after the match, Kanyemba expressed satisfaction with the result, noting that securing an away win was important in building momentum for the second leg.
She, however, admitted that missed chances remain an area of concern, adding that the technical bench will work on improving the team’s finishing ahead of the return fixture.

Kanyemba also praised the hosts for their performance, describing the match as competitive and not as easy as it may have appeared.
Meanwhile, team captain Taonga Mubanga said the team’s unity and focus were key to securing the victory.
Mubanga added that while the result was positive, the players remain aware of the challenge ahead, with Rwanda expected to come back stronger in the second leg.
And Rwanda head coach Oscarine Iragena commended her players for following instructions despite the defeat.
Iragena noted her team, playing in their first ever competition, showed promise and determination, adding that the future of women’s football in Rwanda is bright if such performances are maintained.
The Copper Princesses will host Rwanda in the return leg next week in Ndola, with a place in the next round of the qualifiers at stake.
