Egyptian star Mohamed Salah expressed his desire to continue scoring goals to help Liverpool FC secure qualification for the UEFA Champions League next season.
In what could be his final Merseyside derby, Liverpool claimed a 2-1 victory over Everton FC at Hill Dickinson Stadium during Matchday 33 of the Premier League.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Salah said: ‘Scoring in the last derby feels great. The most important thing was helping the team gain stability and confidence. We knew before the match it would be tough and complicated, and I’m happy we got the win.’
He added: ‘With only a few matches left wearing the Liverpool shirt, I just hope to keep scoring and help the team qualify for the Champions League. I hope to say goodbye in the best possible way.’
Salah’s goal took his tally to nine against Everton, equaling the record of Steven Gerrard as the all-time top scorer in the Merseyside derby.
Notably, Salah has now scored against Everton in both his first and potentially final derby appearances.
The win lifts Liverpool to 53 points in fifth place, five points ahead of Chelsea FC, while Everton remain on 48 points in eighth position.
