NPFL imposes heavy sanctions on Kano Pillars for rule breaches

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has imposed several sanctions on Kano Pillars for breaching the league’s Framework and Rules during their Matchday 35 home victory against Rivers United on Sunday.

The NPFL found the Kano-based club guilty of multiple breaches, including a failure to provide adequate and effective security, which resulted in unauthorised persons gaining access to restricted areas. The club further breached league rules when supporters encroached onto the pitch, compromising the safety of players and officials.

Additionally, Kano Pillars supporters were found to have engaged in behaviour capable of bringing the game into disrepute. The club also failed to ensure the proper conduct of its fans, leading to the intimidation and harassment of match officials—conduct that the league described as undermining its integrity.

A ₦4 million fine was issued for the repeated failure to provide adequate security, alongside a ₦3 million fine for acts capable of bringing the game into disrepute.

Another ₦3 million fine was imposed for failing to control supporters, which resulted in the harassment and intimidation of match officials.

Kano Pillars further received a ₦3 million sanction for repeated gross misconduct towards match officials. For the repeated disruption and delay of the match, which led to the harassment of the centre referee and a stoppage of play, Kano Pillars have also been fined ₦2 million.

Beyond the financial penalties, Pillars must play their next three home matches behind closed doors. One match will be served this season, with the remaining two scheduled for the start of the next campaign. The club has 48 hours to appeal these sanctions.
