Going into the game, the Zambia national team striker-in-chief and the Ghana’s Black Stars forward knew that only victory would save Leicester City from the relegation threat.
However, the 2016 Premier League winners could only share the spoils with Hull City to confirm the demotion to the third-tier league, leaving Daka and Ayew in near tears.
The duo was captured visibly heartbroken and battling tears as the reality sunk in.
The relegation could as well signal the end of the five-year tenure of the Chipolopolo star with the English side.
Of late, the 27-year-old has been under pressure from fans over his low output of just five goals in some 30 Sky Bet Championship matches.
Such a return is unconvincing for someone who was supposed to be Jamie Vardy’s heir to the throne of goals at Leicester City.
On the other hand, Ayew finished the season with six goals in 30 appearances for Leicester City, 14 of which coming off the bench. The former Crystal Palace striker is also unlikely to stay with his current employers.
Meanwhile, Club chairperson Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha has since released a statement taking full responsibility for the relegation.
“There are no excuses,” he said. “We have experienced the highest highs and now the lowest lows, and the pain is shared by all of us. I am truly sorry for the disappointment we have caused.”
The Foxes were docked six points in February for breaching the English Football League’s financial rules when it earned promotion in the 2023-24 season.
With two more rounds of academic matches remaining before the end of the season, the Foxes lie second from the bottom of the 24-member log table with 42 points from 44 games.
