Olympique de Marseille are looking at going in a new direction as the current French Ligue 1 season concludes in May. The southern French port city outfit will now replace Senegalese coach Habib Beye a year before his contract ends, L’Équipe confirms.

The French publication stated that Beye is not included in Marseille’s future plans, as the team have struggled to find their rhythm after Roberto De Zerbi resigned in February. Two months into the job, Beye has guided Marseille in nine games, losing five of them.
Last weekend, in a surprising result, Marseille fell 2–0 to relegation battlers FC Lorient, as sporting director Medhi Benatia criticized the performance.
Marseille appointed a new president, Stéphane Richard, last month, and he is expected to commence work in July 2026 with a new plan for the upcoming season. Sporting director Benatia will be leaving his post after the end of the 2025/26 season.
Following in the footsteps of the former Moroccan defender is expected to be Beye. The former Senegal right-back signed a one-and-a-half-year contract, but L’Équipe confirmed that the club’s plans have now changed, and they intend to move to another coach.
Marseille are currently sixth with 52 points, two points off a UEFA Champions League spot. Beye, 48, will have four league games to secure Marseille’s place in the Champions League next season.
The visibly weakened forward line of the club will be the main worry for the head coach heading into the final stretch. Igor Paixão is injured, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is slowing down as he struggles to score goals.
