Goalkeeper Matthieu Epolo has given a candid opinion about his future at Standard Liege. The young keeper, born in Belgium, had his request to switch allegiance and represent DR Congo granted by FIFA in 2025 before debuting for the Leopards in a December friendly against Zambia.
At 21-years-old, Epolo has been a revelation for the Jupiler Pro League club with many suitors knocking at his door ahead of the summer transfer window due to his brilliant performances.

Epolo spoke about several topics including the interest from French Ligue 1 club Strasbourg and other teams.
“Strasbourg? It’s a fantastic club, but we’ll see what happens. There are also other clubs,” he revealed. Standard would be prepared to cash in on the youngster with a reported price tag of 10 million euros placed on the rising talent.
However, the one-time capped Congolese international is choosing to focus on continuing to perform well for his current club.
“I’m leaving everything to my agent, even though I’m aware of the practical details. For now, I’m focusing on Standard. If I have to leave next summer, I will, but it has to be a win-win situation for all parties involved. I want to bring a nice sum to Standard. That’s my way of giving back to the club everything it’s given me over all these years.”
Epolo, who represented Belgium from the U-17 up until the U-21 level, switched nationality to play for DR Congo in 2025.
He received his maiden call-up to the DR Congo national team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying play-offs last year before debuting in a friendly. For this season, Epolo has made 24 league appearances with 6 clean sheets.
