The ninth league championship is the passport for the Reds’ one more dance with the continent’s finest in the 2027 CAF Champions League.
In a statement, the director attributed the feat of winning back-to-back FNB Premiership championships to hard work and discipline.
“This outstanding achievement is a testament to the club’s unwavering commitment to excellence, discipline, and unity. Retaining the League title is no small feat as it reflects consistency, resilience, and a winning mentality that continues to set Gaborone United apart from other clubs,” said Zakhem
“I would like to express sincere gratitude to our valued sponsors Bank Gaborone, Sunbet, Tredinick, Zone Two Sportswear, and Sip & Grill and ZAC Construction whose steadfast support has played a crucial role in this success. Your investment in the club continues to inspire greatness both on and off the field.
“A special acknowledgement goes to the players of Gaborone United Football Club, whose dedication and passion have brought glory to the club, the technical team and coaches, whose guidance and expertise have shaped a championship winning side and the management, whose leadership ensures the club remains focused and progressive.”
Ahead of the 2027 CAF Champions League return, Zakhem has since urged his team to build on the domestic league success.
“As we celebrate this historic back-to-back achievement, we remain committed to building on this success and striving for even greater heights in the seasons to come,” he added.
Ironically, the defending champions sealed the FNB Premiership title retention on Saturday, the very same day they lost 0-2 to TAFIC FC.
It was only the champions’ second defeat in 27 games, 20 of which are wins and five draws.
Gaborone United have 65 points from 27 games, 10 points ahead of second-placed Jwaneng Galaxy FX, each with three academic matches remaining before the end of the season.
Galaxy can only go as far as 54 points assuming they win their remaining three matches, a threshold which Gaborone United have reached.
Down the table, Extension Gunners, Santa Green and Calendar Stars FC seem destined for relegation.
