DR Congo to warm up for World Cup with Denmark

The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)’s Leopards are leaving no stone unturned to ensure their readiness for the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals.

Ahead of their return to the global football showpiece to run from June to July 2026, the Leopards will face Dynamites of Denmark in a warm-up on 3 June 2026.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, 29 April 2026, the Federation of Congolese Football Associations (FECOFA) confirmed the match.

When and where will DRC-Denmark match take place?

“The DRC faces Denmark on June 3, 2026, at the Maurice Dufrasne Stadium in Liège, Belgium at 20:00 [Kinshasa time] in a friendly match, in preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” reads the statement.

In a separate statement, the Danish football association also confirmed the friendly with the African opposition.

“On June 3, Denmark will face World Cup contenders DR Congo away from home. DRC are led by big players from the Premier League such as Newcastle United star Yoane Wissa and Aaron Wan-Bissaka from West Ham United,” reads the statement.

“The match will be played in Liège, Belgium, where DR Congo have their training camp before the World Cup. DR Congo is number 46 in the World Rankings.”

The Leopards booked their World Cup ticket after edging Jamaica 1-0 in Mexico during an inter-continental play-off on Tuesday, March 31.

Burnley FC defender Axel Tuanzebe’s goal was enough to secure the DRC a return to the World Cup for the first time in 52 years.

The World Cup will run from 11 June 19 July 2026 in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The DRC will compete from the Group K phase alongside Portugal, Colombia and Uzbekistan.

The Leopards will join fellow Africans Senegal, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Cape Verde, South Africa, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt at the World Cup finals.
