South African coach Selaotse Mosala has taken stock of his first month in charge of Eswatini’s MTN Premier League giants Mbabane Highlanders AM FC.

Management or Ezimnyama Ngenkani or the Black Bulls hired the former Sekhukhune United assistant coach in March 2026 following coach Ernest Mavuso’s resignation. He threw in the towel following a string of defeats.

The South African inherited Highlanders AM while in position 10 in the MTN Premier League log table with 10 points from nine games.

Now, under the watch of the Premier Soccer League mentor, the Mbabane-based side sits in eighth place, as of 29 April 2026, 18 points behind leaders Nsingizini Hotspurs.

Six games later, Mosala spoke to Pan-Africa Football to reflect on his performance having so far not tasted defeat.

“When I came here, I realised how good this team is after the first day of training” he said. “What I did was to make the players feel important and the performance just went up. Now, we have registered four wins and two draws. I want to be in the top four at the end of the season.”

With Mosala at the helm, the 13-time MTN Premier League champions have defeated Young Buffaloes FC 5-2, Malanti Chiefs 1-0, Ezulwini FC 3-2, Sisonkhe FC 4-0, drawn 2-2 with Moneni Pirates FC and Green Mamba FC 0-0.

Secret to Mosala’s faultless run with Black Bull

The former University of Pretoria FC handler shared the secret behind his success so far with the Eswatini club he previously managed in 2022, citing collective defending, hard work and instilling the right attitude in the players.

“Hard work beats talent when talent is not working hard,” the CAF A-Licence holder explained. “We stay humble, stick together and work together in good and difficult times. It is all about togetherness, passion, attitude and hard work. The team is coming up because the fitness is proper and the attitude is fine.”

Apart from the right attitude and work ethic, the former Black Leopards FC deputy coach has also put his stamp on Mbabane Highlanders’ tactical approach to game. The emphasis is building from the back quickly.

Mosala explained: “I play out from the back and quickly come out. When we lose the ball, we quickly try to regain possession. When we get into the final third, we allow the players to play with freedom, but the only thing they are not allowed to do is overdoing it.”

South African football administrator Shawn Mkhize, who used to won Betway Premiership side Royal AM (now defunct), is Highlanders AM’s president.

The Black Bulls return to the league action on Friday, 1 May 2026 to face Umbombo Sugar FC.
