There is a major update on whether the 2025/26 Premier League season is indeed over for injured Mohamed Salah. Liverpool FC manager Arne Slot has confirmed that the Egyptian superstar will return for his league swansong.
The “Pharaohs” icon limped off with a thigh muscle injury during last weekend’s 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace FC, raising fears that the campaign could be over for the club’s inspirational attacker.
Injury to the Reds’ No. 11 meant that chances of him playing farewell matches for Liverpool were in serious doubt ahead of his imminent departure. Now, in a pre-match news conference on Friday, 1 May 2026, Slot announced that it is not all doom and gloom for Salah before his summer exit from Merseyside.
“That is the latest! As we know from Mo, he’s always working incredibly hard during the season when he’s fit, but also when he is injured to be back as soon as possible,” said the manager.
The Dutch manager disclosed that while the 2026 FIFA World Cup-bound forward will not make the squad for Sunday’s clash against Manchester United, he is expected back soon.
“That’s what he’s trying so well now. Usually, he’s faster than other players after a minor injury—because he has a minor injury. We expect him indeed to be back in the final part of the season, but not for Sunday,” Slot added.
Asked if he was relieved to learn that the 33-year-old would be available for selection in the remaining four games, the manager gave an emphatic “yes.”
“Not in some ways, in all ways. It’s a big relief that his injury is minor, so that he’s able to play for us and that he’s able to play at the World Cup. If there is any player that deserves to get a big send-off, it’s definitely Mo,” the Dutchman said.
After Liverpool’s trip to Old Trafford on Sunday, 3 May 2026, the Reds will take on Chelsea at Anfield on 9 May, before an away clash against Aston Villa on 17 May. Liverpool will then host Brentford on 24 May to bring the curtain down on the campaign and close the chapter on Salah’s hugely successful career.
The Egyptian has scored 12 goals and registered nine assists in 39 games across all competitions this season.
