Malawi FDH Bank Premiership: Joseph’s brace maintains Silver Strikers fine start

Silver Strikers FC maintained their perfect start to the 2026-2027 FDH Bank Premiership season with a 4-1 victory over Moyale Barracks FC in Lilongwe on Saturday.

Up-and-coming striker Andrew Joseph scored once in either half before Festus Duwe and Chinsinsi Maonga registered their names on the scoreboard, while the army outfit’s sole response came from Charles Nkhoma’s second-half goal.

Joseph put the Reserve Bank-sponsored side ahead 38 minutes into the contest at Silver Stadium in the heart of the Malawi capital city for the hosts to lead 1-0 at the break.

When play restarted, the in-form striker added a second goal six minutes into the second half.

The soldiers from the Northern Region city of Mzuzu responded instantly to the setback with a 55th minute header from Nkhoma after a well-worked out freekick on the edge of the box to make it 2-1.

Thereafter, hopes of Moyale Barracks’ comeback were dashed as Duwe shrugged off his marker then finished cooly to extend the lead for the nine-time FDH Bank Premiership champions in the 68th minute.

Silver Strikers lead the FDH Premiership table

Six minutes later, Duwe’s fellow attacker Maonga put the game beyond the grasp of coach Prichard Mwansa’s soldiers by scoring the fourth goal for Strikers in the 74th minute. That was the last goal of the five-goal thriller.

Strikers started the season with a 2-0 victory over Kamuzu Barracks and now lead the 16-member log table with a perfect record.
