Süper Lig: Marius, Cherif Ndiaye and Samsunspor thump Galatasaray

Victor Osimhen and Galatasaray still have work to do to secure the Turkish Süper Lig title after being on the wrong end of a 4-1 victory at Samsunspor.

Chad national team star Marius Mouandilmandji and Senegalese forward Cherif Ndiaye were in peak form, with the Chadian providing two goals and an assist on one of Ndiaye’s two goals in the victory.

Samsunspor are out of contention to qualify for UEFA club competition next season after a strong UEFA Europa Conference League campaign this year. However, they showed how dangerous they can be in a victory that strengthened their hold on seventh place on the table.

Gala, who remain four points clear at the top with two rounds remaining, got off to a strong start. Osimhen was credited with an assist on Yunus Akgün’s 9th minute opener when the Turkish international produced an outstanding lofted effort to catch home goalkeeper Okan Kocuk off his line.

Süper Lig champions humbled away from home

However, it was Marius who leveled the match in the 22nd minute and then the powerful striker made an enterprising run down the right wing before setting up Ndiaye for the hosts’ second goal. A few minutes later, disaster struck for the visitors when Osimhen’s back pass led to a red card offense on Galatasaray goalkeeper Gunay Guvenc.

From then on, the reigning champions were ripe for the plucking and it was the hosts’ African duo who pounced. Marius added his second goal eight minutes later and Ndiaye completed his brace in the 82nd minute.

The Chadian now has 22 goals and 4 assists in all competition this season while Ndiaye boosted his total to 10 goals this season.

Osimhen and his club can still clinch a successful title defense next Saturday when they host relegation candidates Antalyaspor.
