Rwanda Premier League: Late first-half goals see Rayon Sport and APR share spoils in Kigali

Rayon Sport and APR settled for a 1-1 stalemate in a tightly contested Rwanda Premier League (BK Pro League) clash at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali on Saturday evening, with both sides striking before the break in an entertaining encounter.

The hosts edged in front in the 32nd minute through Asman Ndikumana, who reacted quickest to a defensive lapse to slot home with a composed finish.

However, their advantage was short-lived as APR found a response just ten minutes later. Djibril Ouattara restored parity from the penalty spot in the 40th minute after Ruboneka had been brought down in the area.

The forward showed great composure, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to level matters heading into halftime.

Earlier in the match, APR looked lively on the flanks, with Hakim Kiwanuka causing problems on the right, though his deliveries lacked the cutting edge. Rayon Sport, meanwhile, enjoyed more possession and built their play patiently but struggled to convert their dominance into clear-cut chances.

After the restart, APR nearly turned the game around in the 58th minute when Denis Omedi rose to meet a well-delivered ball from Ouattara, but his header failed to hit the target.

Rayon Sport also had their chances to extend their lead in the first half but were let down by poor coordination in the final third, missing an opportunity to take firm control of the match. In the end, neither side could find a decisive breakthrough, as the points were shared in Kigali.

APR remain second on the table with 56 points, while Rayon Sport sit fourth with 48 points after 29 matches.
