Linafoot Playoffs: Mpoyo’s stunning strike gives CS Don Bosco the victory

Élie Mpoyo produced a magical performance on Monday in DR Congo’s Linafoot playoffs, assisting the opening goal before scoring the goal of the playoffs so far in a 2-1 victory over AS Vita Club at the Stade TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi.

On loan from TP Mazembe, the promising attacker displayed his high level to help the hosts earn their first points of the championship phase against Kinshasa-based VClub.

Following a scoreless first half, the hosts needed inspiration after dropping to a 0-2 defeat in their playoff opener against AS Maniema Union. After the hour mark, a corner kick appeared to pass without incident for the VClub defense but Mpoyo collected the ball on the left wing and provided a perfect cross for Molindo Mbala to nod in the opening goal.

Minutes later, Mpoyo provided the decisive moment that was too much for VClub to bounce back from. A swift counter-attack found the attacker in space. After running at a defender, Mpoyo saw goalkeeper Jackson Lunanga off his line and chipped a perfectly weighted shot over the retreating shot stopper who was left in disbelief.

The club from the capital did get a goal back late but the Black Dolphins have now dropped to defeat in their first two playoff matches.

Lubumbashi continues to be the focal point of the playoffs and a massive derby will take place on Tuesday when action continues. TP Mazembe will take on rivals FC Saint-Éloi Lupopo at the same venue in the Lushois Derby, where Mazembe will hope to make it two wins from two matches.
