Kenya reveal venues to stage 2027 AFCON

Ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the Kenyan government has released a list of match venues that will be used during the tournament to be co-hosted in East Africa.

This edition of the tournament will be the first to be hosted by three countries, and the first in five decades to be organised in the CECAFA region, since it was hosted by Ethiopia in 1976.

This event is part of the Africa Cup of Nations’ 70th anniversary, and will also be the last one to be held in odd-numbered years, as CAF announced in December 2025 that AFCON would become a quadrennial tournament from 2028 onwards.

Talanta Sports City Stadium to take centre stage

According to Kenya’s Sports Principal Secretary Elijah Mwangi, the under-construction Talanta Sports City Stadium and Kasarani, have been selected as the main host venues for the tournament.

Nyayo Stadium, with a capacity of 30, 000 seaters, and which hosted the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) last year, has been placed under the alternative ground category and will not serve as a primary AFCON venue.

Training facilities include Ulinzi Sports Complex, Police Sacco Grounds, Moi International Sports Centre Annex 1 and Annex 2, Kenya Academy of Sports Grounds 1 and 2, Utalii College Grounds, Talanta Sports City Stadium 1 and Kirigiti Stadium.

Kenya comply with CAF requirements

In a recent interview, Mwangi promised they will deliver a world-class continental showpiece.

“With 410 days to go, Kenya is ready to confirm her solid credentials as a leading host for staging world-class continental showpiece; the AFCON 2027,” said Mwangi, after chairing the inaugural meeting for the National Steering Committee for Pamoja AFCON 2027.

Mwangi added: “While we have complied with a host of CAF requirements and are well on course on to meet other essential deadlines, I insisted to the committee on the imperative to coordinate more effectively in support of the delivery of a memorable tournament.

“Kenya proved her capacity to host competitive continental tournament with CHAN2024. With AFCON 2027, we will redefine the tournament hosting landscape.

“Building on the strengths and other crucial lessons CHAN, the government is fully confident that the foundation established and supported by the team’s dedication and shared passion will deliver an epic sporting event.”

With the Preliminary round completed, the journey to Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda will continue with the draw for the qualifiers of the AFCON PAMOJA 2027, that will take place on May 19.
