Among the nine players is Galloway, who was with the club for the past five years, but injuries affected his progress.
“A further nine players, who are all out of contract as of this summer, are being released. They are: Jamie Paterson, Zak Baker, Ayman Benarous, Luca Ashby-Hammond, Brendan Galloway, Jack Matthews, Joe Hatch, Nathanael Ogbeta and Callum Wright,” read part of the statement.
The 30-year-old has made 109 appearances in nearly five seasons. His most productive spell came in the current campaign, where he featured 25 times across all competitions.
The statement added: “We wish all departing players our very best, and thank them for their contributions as Pilgrims over the years.
“Four players were on loan with Argyle – Alex Mitchell, Herbie Kane, Owen Dale and Wes Harding – and they now return to their parent clubs, also with our thanks for their efforts.”
Brendan Galloway was born in Harare, Zimbabwe on 17 March 1996, and moved to England with his family when he was six years old. He started playing for Milton Keynes Dons when he joined the club’s under-11 side.
He became the youngest first-team player in Milton Keynes Dons’ history at 15 years of age after making his debut as a 79th-minute substitute in a 6-0 victory at home to Nantwich Town in the FA Cup first round on 12 November 2011.
He made his league début after starting for MK Dons in a 2-1 victory at Rochdale on 28 April 2012, and scored his first senior goal for MK Dons in their 4-1 win over Halifax Town on 9 November 2013.
