Libyan Premier League recap: Playoffs begin with draw for top contenders strong starts for Al Hilal, Asswehly and Al Ahly Benghazi

The opening round of Libyan Premier League playoff delivered strong starts as Al Hilal Benghazi and Al Ahly Benghazi both secured important victories, while major clashes involving title contenders ended in tightly contested draws.

In one of the standout fixtures, the capital derby between Al Ittihad Tripoli and Al Ahli Tripoli ended in a goalless draw. Despite the significance of the occasion, neither side managed to break the deadlock, with both teams settling for a point in Group One.

In Group Two, Al Akhdar SC and Al Nasr SC Benghazi played out a 1-1 draw. After a scoreless first half, Al-Jazouli Nouh gave Al Akhdar the lead before Nasr El Din equalized for Al Nasr.

Al Hilal Benghazi earned a valuable 1-0 victory over Al Afreky thanks to the decisive strike from Anis Khamisiya.

Meanwhile, Al Ahly Benghazi overcame Al Ittihad Al Askari 2-1. Goals from Jibril Sylla and Hammam Ghrimbil gave Al Ahly Benghazi a strong first-half advantage before their opponents reduced the deficit after the break through Saleh Al Taher.

Elsewhere, Al Madina SC edged Al Olympic Club 3-2, while Asswehly SC claimed a narrow 1-0 derby win over Al Ittihad Misurata.

With the second round set for Sunday, the early results have already intensified competition in Libya’s title race, with every point likely to prove crucial in determining this season’s champion.
