Liverpool FC manager Arne Slot has hinted that Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah might bounce back to action this week to begin his farewell matches for the club.
Speaking after a one-all draw with Chelsea on Saturday, 9 May 2026, the Dutchman suggested the 35-year-old winger could feature in the away assignment against Aston Villa on Friday, 15 May 2026. The tie will kick-off at 9pm United Kingdom Time.
Slot gave an update on the African star while also addressing injuries issues of other Liverpool FC players such as defender Ibrahim Konate, goalkeeper Alisson Becker and midfielder Florian Wirtz.
“Konate, we always have to wait and see, [but] the way he limped off, he told me it was cramp,” Slot told his club’s website.
“Let’s hope he is right in his assessment, but we have to wait and see tomorrow how he feels and how that will work out. I think Mo [Salah] is close to returning, Ali [Becker] is close to returning, but Flo [Wirtz] we have to wait and see how he is recovering after what he has.”
Salah has missed two back-to-back Premier League games, including against Manchester United on 3 May 2026 due to a thigh muscle injury.
The latest injury has been a source of concern in the larger context of things considering that is set to leave the outgoing Premier League champions this summer.
The former African Footballer of the Year limped off with a thigh muscle injury during the previous weekend’s 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace FC, raising fears that the campaign could be over for the club’s inspirational attacker.
Injury to the Reds’ No. 11 meant that chances of him playing farewell matches for Liverpool were in serious doubt ahead of his imminent departure.
Now the former AS Roma’s winger looks certain to play in the remaining two games of the season for Liverpool FC against Villa and Brentford FC.
The outgoing champions will host Brentford on 24 May 2026 to bring the curtain down on the campaign and close the chapter on Salah’s hugely successful career.
The Egyptian has scored 12 goals and registered nine assists in 39 games across all competitions this season.
