Former Ghana coach Otto Addo named to World Cup Technical Study Group

Former Ghana national team head coach Otto Addo has been appointed to FIFA’s Technical Study Group (TSG) for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026, joining a star-studded panel of global football experts tasked with analysing all 104 matches at the tournament.

FIFA confirmed the experienced tactician as part of a renowned technical panel that will operate under the guidance of legendary French coach Arsène Wenger.

The group will be coordinated by former Switzerland goalkeeper Pascal Zuberbühler alongside FIFA’s Football Performance Insights lead Tom Gardner.

Addo, who handled Ghana in two separate spells between 2022 and 2026, joins an elite cast that includes former Germany coach Jürgen Klinsmann, ex-USA star Tobin Heath, Brazilian World Cup winner Gilberto Silva and former Argentina defender Pablo Zabaleta among others.

The Technical Study Group will provide detailed tactical and performance analysis throughout the tournament while helping identify emerging trends in modern football.

For the first time in FIFA World Cup history, supporters around the globe will also receive real-time insights from the panel through FIFA’s digital and social media platforms.

According to Wenger, the initiative is aimed at improving the global understanding of football by blending expert tactical interpretation with advanced performance data and analytics.

During the competition, the TSG members will study every game either from dedicated tactical positions inside stadiums or from FIFA’s performance suite in Miami.

They will have access to multiple live video feeds and thousands of real-time data points to enhance match analysis and technical reporting. The experts will also play a key role in selecting winners of the tournament’s individual awards at the end of the competition.

Addo’s appointment further underlines his growing reputation within international football following his work with Ghana both as a player and coach. The former Black Stars midfielder earned 15 caps for his country before transitioning into coaching, where he later guided the national team across two different periods.

Other members on the panel include Jayne Ludlow, Michael O’Neill, Jon Dahl Tomasson, Paulo Wanchope and Aron Winter.
