Peter Mponda: Black Leopards FC media
While South Africa’s Black Leopards FC have been relegated to the third-tier league, their legend Peter Mponda has steered unfancied Masters FC to Malawi elite league summit.
The former Flames captain maintained his fine start to Masters FC’s job when he presided over a 2-0 victory over rookies LUANA Mitundu FC in a FDH Bank Premiership match in Lilongwe on Monday, 11 May 2026.
Stain Davie’s 29th-minute strike and Leo Kachikho’s 96th-minute own goal handed the side for the ex-Black Leopards assistant coach maximum points at Bingu National Stadium.
Mponda’s employers, who returned to the elite league after buying Baka City’s FDH Bank Premiership status, have posted three straight wins to displace his former club FCB Nyasa Big Bullets from the top.
In a post-match interview, the former Black Leopards skipper refused to be carried away by the solid start to the season.
“It was a tough game,” the former Engen Santos FC star told his club’s website. “We knew they were aggressive and quick on the ball. We struggled to match them at times, but in terms of composure we were better, and in the end, we got the much-needed three points.”
Stain Davie puts Masters FC on victory path
Davie, who worked with Mponda when he joined Silver Strikers in the 2024 season soon after he quit Black Leopards, gave Masters FC the lead with a close-range finish in the 31st minute.
Masters FC put the game to bed when Kachikho bundled the ball into his own net in the second half. Mponda’s team returns to action on Sunday, 17 May to face Silver Strikers in Lilongwe.
