Meva speaks out as Cameroon miss out on U-20 World Cup

Cameroon U-20 women’s forward Christiane ‘Kiki’ Meva has broken her silence following the Junior Lionesses’ devastating failure to secure a spot at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

The Cameroonian side saw their dreams of participating in the global showpiece in Poland vanish after falling victim to the away goals rule against Tanzania on May 10. Despite carrying a healthy -3-1 advantage from the first leg in Yaoundé, the Lionesses suffered a 2-0 defeat in the return fixture in Zanzibar, resulting in a 3-3 aggregate draw that favored the East Africans.

Meva, the 18-year-old rising star, took to social media on Monday to express her profound disappointment over the exit while urging the nation to remain patient with the young squad.

Christiane Meva calls for calm after Cameroon’s World Cup heartbreak

“To all the Cameroonian people, I know the pain is great. We had the dream in our hands after that magnificent 3-1 win in Yaoundé, but football can be cruel beyond words, and Zanzibar reminded us of that this Sunday,” Meva shared with her followers on Instagrm.

“I beg your forgiveness for that goal that never came, and for that ticket to Poland that we couldn’t secure for our country. Every girl on that field gave everything they had, and each one is returning to Yaoundé with a heavy heart, just like you.

“Thank you so much to the Cameroonian people for your unwavering support. You never let go of us. Even from afar, your passion is our strength. We fall, we suffer, but we will rise again. The green-red-yellow flag will fly even higher. Cameroon never dies,” she wrote in an emotional Instagram post.
