With just three matches left before the end of the 2025/26 Uganda Premier League season, Buhimba United Saints have been dealt another major setback after head coach Robert Mukasa stepped down from his role amid ongoing financial challenges at the club.
According to reports by Sports Nation Uganda, Mukasa left the team on the eve of their league encounter against NEC FC at Lugogo, although the club had not yet issued any official communication regarding his departure by Wednesday.
Sources close to the tactician revealed that the decision was largely influenced by unpaid salaries, with Mukasa reportedly claiming he had not received any payment since taking charge of the club in December last year.
The coach is also said to have been frustrated by the situation despite earlier reports suggesting the club had secured new ownership and fresh financial backing.
The financial difficulties at Buhimba United Saints are understood to have affected more than just the technical bench.
Further reports indicate that several players recently declined to honour matches over similar grievances, while the team also experienced logistical struggles, including arriving late for their Uganda Premier League fixture against Express FC in Hoima.
Mukasa joined Buhimba United Saints on a short-term, one-year renewable contract, bringing with him vast experience from previous roles at URA FC, SC Villa, Gaddafi FC, and UTODA FC.
However, results remained difficult to come by during his tenure. Under Mukasa, Buhimba United Saints collected only six points from 18 league matches, managing a single victory against Maroons FC and three draws against UPDF FC and Police FC.
The Hoima-based side now heads into a crucial relegation battle without their head coach, with the NEC FC clash carrying huge significance in their fight to survive in the top flight.
