Group C kicked off on Thursday at the 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (U-17 AFCON) with a 0-0 draw between Mali and Angola in Morocco.
The result was not due to a lack of attacking intent. In the first half, both teams proved to be a threat with the focus of attacks down the flanks. Poor finishing failed to challenge the goalkeepers, with several opportunities in the penalty areas leading to weak efforts.
Mali was consistently more dangerous but were particularly guilty of inadequate shooting. Namory Coumaré had the best chance of the first half with only the goalkeeper to beat from the edge of the six-yard box, but he could not set his feet right for a proper shot and his tame effort was kept out by goalkeeper Gelson Dala.

Dala’s outstanding performance allowed Os Palanquinhas to escape with a point. Despite the superior play and quality of opportunities from the West Africans, their frustration was summed up late on when substitute Djigui Koïta was left with a gaping goal but fluffed his lines after Dala went down to save an initial effort.
Dala was named Man of the Match for his efforts. The COSAFA representatives will next take on Tanzania on Saturday while Mali will look to improve their final product against Mozambique.
