Senegal forward Sega Fall Mbodji has reacted to their slim yet important U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) victory over Ghana on Sunday in Morocco.
The young Lions of Teranga held their nerve for most of the match following El Hadji Ibrahima Sow’s 41st-minute red card.
Ultimately, Ibrahima Dione’s 57th-minute goal from a fast break proved decisive in Rabat, securing Senegal’s first win in Group D.
Following the crucial 1-0 triumph, Mbodji praised the immense determination shown by the Young Lions throughout the encounter.
“We never gave up. We fought hard to keep a clean sheet because it would have been difficult to come back. We managed the game well and defended brilliantly,” the striker explained to FSF TV.
Ahead of the decisive clash against South Africa for a place in the quarterfinals and the U17 World Cup, the Generation Foot player expressed the team’s desire to maintain momentum:
“We’re going to continue on this path, improve many aspects of our game, and stay focused on our competition.”
Senegal will next face South Africa in their final group fixture at AFCON, where both teams need a victory to secure a knockout phase spot.
Algeria currently top Group D with four points, followed by South Africa and Senegal on three points each, while Ghana sit bottom with one.
