Libyan Premier League: Al Ahli Tripoli end first stage with a perfect record

The first stage of the 2024-25 Libyan Premier League season is complete with three clubs qualifying from each of the four groups divided by region. All of the nation’s top clubs advanced and it was big spenders Al Ahli Tripoli who impressed the most, completing a perfect record on Tuesday.

Ahli scored twice in the first half to defeat Abi Al Ashar 2-0. Libya national team attacker Muaid Ellafi and Hamdou Elhouni combined for Elhouni to open the scoring inside twenty minutes.

Scoring the second goal was none other than talismanic Angolan striker Mabululu who converted a penalty kick just before halftime for his league leading tenth goal. Ahli finish with an outstanding record of twenty-four goals and zero conceded from their eight matches.

Ahli are joined by Al Madina and Al Ittihad Misurata as the teams to advance from Group 4. Group 3 concluded with a thrilling 3-3 clash between Olympic Azzaweya and Asswehly, who finish at the top while Azzaweya settled for second place.

Libya national team striker Omar Al Khouja scored twice for Asswehly who did concede twice in the second half to settle for the draw. Al-Ittihad Tripoli finished in third place, advancing due to a superior goal difference despite finishing level on points with Shabab Al-Ghar and Abu Salem.

In the remaining groups, Al Akhdar fell to a 1-3 defeat but already secured top spot in Group 1. They are joined by defending champions Al Nasr who finished second place with Al Tahaddi in third position. In Group 2, Benghazi giants Al Ahly and Al Hilal finished first and second place with Al Taawun joining them in the next round as the third placed team.

Below is the final table for the first round. The top three clubs advanced to the next stage. The bottom team in each group is relegated while two clubs go to a relegation stage. The exception is in Group 2 where the bottom two teams go to the relegation stage.
