Super Falcons forward Francisca Ordega is confident that Nigeria possesses the quality to secure a record-extending tenth Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in Morocco.
At the last edition, the Super Falcons experienced a disappointing outcome, finishing in fourth position. This result saw Banyana Banyana of South Africa dethrone them as the African Women’s champions.
Head coach Justine Madugu’s side is gearing up for the 2025 WAFCON and will take on the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon in a friendly at the newly renovated MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta on Tuesday.
In a short video posted on the Super Falcons X account, Ordega affirmed that they will do their best to beat other competing national teams to the title.
“I think we want to win, nobody goes into battle with the intention of losing, everybody wants to win,” she said.
“Other countries are going there to win, that should be at the back of our minds as well, that this is what we want to do.”
The Al-Shabab of Saudi Arabia player also added that there’s enough hunger in the team to go all out.
“Some of the young girls in the team have not tasted victory before, so they don’t know what it is like. I believe they have a lot of fight in them,” added Ordega.
“We lost the title to South Africa, but this time around, we want the title back. It is important for the new players to have that feeling too.”
The Super Falcons will face Tunisia, Algeria and Botswana in Group B at the WAFCON 2024 finals.
They will play all their group stage matches at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca.
