Despite calls by agitated fans to have head coach Charles Okere fired following the team’s humiliating 7-1 Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League defeat against Sofapaka, the management has backed the embattled coach to turn around the club’s fortunes.

The Brewers’ quest for the 2024/25 Premier League crown suffered a huge blow after the embarrassing defeat left them six points behind leaders Kenya Police FC with two matches left to conclude the season.

“We are backing Okere to turn the team’s fortunes around and finish the season strongly. He is our head coach, and we are fully behind him—there is no doubt about that,” Gacheru said as quoted by Mozzart Sport.

“It has largely been a good season. It’s his first year as a top-flight coach, and he kept the team in the title race until the final stretch. In fact, technically, we’re still in the race. So, there’s absolutely no reason to consider a coaching change.”

On the defeat against Batoto ba Mungu, Gacheru said: “The result was disappointing—no question. But every big club has suffered a heavy defeat at some point. Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Barcelona—you name them—have all been on the receiving end of big losses. They didn’t sack their coaches, and we’re not going to either.

“We’ll sit down with the coaching staff, assess the game, and make the necessary corrections as we move forward.”

Tusker will return to action against Kariobangi Sharks on June 14 before concluding their league fixtures away to Kakamega Homeboyz on June 22.
