On Monday, Zambia national team playmaker Kings Kangwa provided a goal and an assist at the end of the first half to spark Hapoel Beer Sheva’s 4-1 victory over Maccabi Haifa in the Israeli Premier League.
Kangwa provided the pass that led to Dan Biton’s opener before smashing in a goal of his own to complete a late first half blitz that ended with Hapoel up 2-0 by halftime.
Maccabi pulled a goal back early in the second half but hosts Hapoel responded with two goals in the final half hour to secure victory. They remain tied with Maccabi Tel Aviv on 74 points at the top of the Premier League table with only two matches remaining. Both teams are also level on the first tiebreaker, goal difference, with both teams at +42.
Hapoel will travel to Beitar Jerusalem for a clash next Monday before hosting Hapoel Haifa in their season finale five days later. They are looking to upstage reigning champions Maccabi Tel Aviv who crushed Maccabi Netanya 6-1 in a match played simultaneously on Monday.
Kangwa, clearly the best foreign player this season in the Israeli top flight, now has 13 goals and 9 assists in 33 league matches for Hapoel. He joined Hapoel ahead of the 2024-25 season from top Serbian club Red Star Belgrade.
