Simba SC forward Joshua Mutale has explained how criticism by fans has helped him to grow as a player after he was crowned man of the match following the 2-1 Mainland Premier League victory against KMC at KMC Stadium on Sunday.
After going down with only eight minutes played courtesy of a goal from Rashid Chambo, the Msimbazi Reds recovered to score two goals courtesy of a brace from Ugandan forward Steven Mukwala, with Mutale setting up the second, to seal points from the fixture.
“The first thing I can say, criticism is not about what you can’t do is about what you can do, and others cant do, so if people are criticising you, fans are criticising you, they know what you can do, and if they don’t see that, then it is a must they have to criticise you, it is about how you take the criticism, if you take it in a negative way, you keep going down, but those criticism I think is a ladder of going up,” explained Mutale said after the game.
“As a footballer you don’t expect to be up always, and not everyone will praise you, but if they criticise you, you have to rise above the criticism and do what you can do best, I know i didn’t start the season well, because i experienced a lot of injuries, but I thank God for pulling me back to my best, and I will continue working hard.”
On what KMC win means for Simba, the Zambian forward said: “I think this win means a lot, man of the match in Premiership for the first time.
“It really means a lot to me and I am happy that we have won this game, because it was very important that we win, and the win means we have closed the gap, it is now only one point, Yanga is on top of us, but we really wanted to win, and now we shift our focus to CAF.”
The win saw Simba move to within a point of leaders and champions Young Africans (Yanga SC). Simba have 69 points accumulated from 22 wins, three draws and only one defeat.
