KCCA FC interim head coach Jackson Magera has lauded his team’s resilience and fighting spirit after their hard-fought 2-2 draw with SC Villa in a pulsating Kampala Derby at Wankulukuku Stadium.
In a match filled with drama and intensity, young forward Emmanuel Anyama was the star for KCCA, netting a brace to help his side claw back from a goal down. Anyama opened the scoring early on, but SC Villa responded swiftly—first through Charles Lwanga and then via a Reagan Mpande penalty to lead 2-1 at halftime.
KCCA, however, showed determination and character in the second half. Just seven minutes after the break, Anyama rose highest to nod home a Joao Gabriel delivery, leveling the contest at 2-2.
“It was a very fantastic game,” said Magera while speaking to the club media. “As I’ve said before, these are two historical clubs in Ugandan football, and they gave a great account of themselves.”
Despite the impressive comeback, Magera was quick to acknowledge the areas for improvement, particularly at the back. “There were some moments of reckless defending, and those cost us the two goals we conceded,” he admitted.
The coach also touched on the physical demands of a packed fixture schedule. “We are in a very tight period with many games coming in quick succession. I must congratulate my players they’ve shown great effort against a tough opponent like SC Villa,” he noted. “Now, recovery is key. We must manage our players’ bodies well to keep up the performance levels.”
The result leaves KCCA FC 5th on the Uganda Premier League table with 41 points from 27 matches. Attention now turns to their next assignment against Wakiso Giants at the MTN Philip Omondi Stadium on Saturday, May 10th. That will be followed by a Uganda Cup second-leg tie away to Kataka FC in Mbale on Sunday, May 18th.
Magera emphasized the importance of smart rotation and maintaining high standards across all competitions in the season’s final stretch.
