The Group Stage clash between Al Ahly and Palmeiras in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup was suspended suddenly due to adverse weather in the United States.
The match, held at MetLife stadium in New Jersey, was stopped in the second half with Palmeiras leading 2-0.
Referee Anthony Taylor intervened following worsening conditions and held brief discussions with Al Ahly head coach José Reveiro and Palmeiras coach Abel Ferreira before instructing all players and staff to leave the field.
Stadium screens then displayed an advisory message urging fans to seek shelter inside the stadium and vacate their seats for safety reasons.
Palmeiras had taken the lead through an own goal by Al Ahly’s Wessam Abou Ali in the 49th minute.
The Brazilian side doubled their advantage ten minutes later, when José López scored a one-on-one goal to make it 2-0.
As of now, the match is officially suspended until further notice, with no new date confirmed for resumption or replay.
All four teams in the group—Al Ahly, Palmeiras, Inter Miami (USA), and FC Porto (Portugal)—entered Matchday 2 level on one point each, following draws in the opening round of fixtures
