Teixeira thanks Boa Morte as Guinea-Bissau seeks new head coach

Guinea-Bissau Football Federation president Carlos Alberto Mendes Teixeira commended Luís Boa Morte for his time as the head coach of the national side.

The Portuguese tactician left his role as head coach of the Guinea-Bissau National Team after Monday’s 2-0 defeat to Gabon in Morocco.

Boa Morte was named coach in August 2024 but failed to lead the national side to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). As a result, the federation and the former Arsenal and Fulham player terminated their contract by mutual consent.

Teixeira, as quoted by Fut245, expressed his gratitude to Boa Morte: “First of all, I would like to thank Luís Boa Morte for the way he accepted our invitation to take over our national team. He was among the best in the world championships and, if not, the best.

“He always demonstrated his character and commitment in helping our national team. We cannot be ungrateful to him; he was always a good professional throughout this period, but our relationship has come to an end.”

The federation further confirmed that they are working to appoint a new national team head coach in the coming days.

Guinea-Bissau’s next assignment will be in the 2026 FIFA World Cup African Qualifier Group A encounters against Sierra Leone and Djibouti. They are fifth in the group with six points.
