Diouf was captured on camera celebrating the victory while taking a dig at the television pundit for his previous comments that undermined African football competitions.
“That one’s for that Carragher! Look at Jamie Carragher!” he screamed.
In February, Carragher had suggested that Mohamed Salah did not stand a chance to win the Ballon d’Or because “he’s with Egypt… not playing in a major tournament.”
The former England defender’s comments were seen as undermining the Africa Cup of Nations finals. However, the performance of Senegal proved that the gulf in class is not as big at the City Ground stadium in Nottingham. It was England’s first-ever defeat to an African national team.
The Africans scored through goals from Habib Diarra, Ismaila Sarr, and Cheikh Sabaly. The hosts were the first to take the lead through Harry Kane before the Africans fought back.
Before meeting England, the Teranga Lions played against Ireland and drew 1-1 on June 6 in Dublin.
