Ghana Premier League: “Kotoko’s defeat to Vision FC is a wake-up call” – Zito

Head coach of Asante Kotoko, Abdul Karim Zito, has indicated that their 3-1 loss to Vision FC is a ‘wake-up call’ ahead of their MTN FA Cup final against Division One club Golden Kicks.

The Porcupine Warriors surprising suffered the heavy loss at the Nii Adjei Okraku II Complex in Tema on the final day of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League on Sunday, June 8.

Nonetheless, the result kept the record Ghana Premier League holders in the race for a top-four finish after ending the season level on 58 points with sworn rivals Hearts of Oak, pending a decision on the truncated Week 33 game between Nations FC and Basake Holy Stars.

Karim Zito said after the match: “The positive side of this game is a wake-up call for the final [FA Cup] . I am going to play because I saw it coming before the Medeama game.

“So I’m not too worried because, at the end of the day, winning this game wouldn’t give me the title, but it would put us in a better position.

“As I said, it’s a wake-up call for the final, and I’m happy it happened now because it gives me a chance to reorganize the team for the FA Cup final. I told the players that I’m using this game as preparation.”

Kotoko will face Golden Kicks in the MTN FA Cup final on June 15 at the Legon Sports Stadium, with the winner qualifying for next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.

Bibiani Gold Stars will represent Ghana in next season’s CAF Champions League after clinching their first-ever Ghana Premier League title, finishing the campaign on 63 points.
