Zimbabwe Warriors head coach Michael Nees has expressed concern over Khama Billiat’s availability for Tuesday’s friendly against Niger in Morocco.
The former Kaizer Chiefs star was carried off the field at Stade El Bachir in Mohammedia during the Warriors 2-0 friendly defeat to Burkina Faso.
The coach revealed that Burkina Faso players targeted the Scotland FC player, who eventually sustained an injury.
“Khama was fouled six or seven times, and I had to take him off for Tino [Kadewere]…I’m not sure if it’s something serious. It’s a knock,” he told the Zimbabwe Football Association media.
The German coach felt Billiat could have changed the course of the game: “I think he played a good game. I get the feeling that if he had stayed on, he would have scored or assisted a goal for Tino.”
The coach described the result as a fair reflection of the match, citing his new-look side’s performance as encouraging despite the loss.
The Warriors were without several key players—including Marshall Munetsi, Knowledge Musona, Divine Lunga, Marvellous Nakamba, and Jordan Zemura—who missed out for various reasons.
The Warriors will wrap up their North African tour with a match against Niger, as both teams prepare for the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
