New decision regarding Zamalek’s complaint against former star Zizo

The Egyptian Football Association’s (EFA) Appeals Committee has decided to refer Zamalek SC’s formal complaint against rivals Al Ahly and midfielder Ahmed Sayed “Zizo” to the Players’ Status Committee for further investigation and resolution.

The case revolves around Zamalek’s claim that Al Ahly unlawfully negotiated and signed Zizo while he was still under contract with Zamalek. The Appeals Committee convened on June 18 to review the matter and announced its decision today, June 25.

In its statement, the Appeals Committee clarified that Zamalek’s appeal against the Disciplinary Committee’s previous decision was formally accepted, as it was filed within the deadline and accompanied by the necessary fees, in line with EFA regulations. However, the Appeals Committee concluded that the Players’ Status Committee is the competent authority to handle such disputes and has accordingly referred the case for adjudication.

Zamalek will retain the right to appeal to the Appeals Committee again once the Players’ Status Committee issues its final decision.

The case dates back to an earlier ruling on June 2, when the EFA’s Disciplinary Committee declared that it lacked jurisdiction to consider the complaint filed by Zamalek.

Zizo, a former Zamalek star, joined Al Ahly following the expiration of his contract at the end of last season. Since then, he has made three appearances for Al Ahly in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, starting and playing the final two matches for Ahly in Group A.
