Adama Ketema became the third team to be relegated from the Ethiopian Premier League after losing 2-1 to Hawassa Ketema in a Week 36 match played at the Adama Science and Technology University Stadium. Adama Ketema were relegated for the second time since the league was restructured in the 1997/98 season.
Adama started off on a bright note following Binyam Aytene’s opener. Aytene scored after beating his markers, continuing his superb individual form. The Lakers were without top scorer Ali Sulieman, who was suspended due to the accumulation of five yellow cards. However, they equalized through Abenezer Yohannes before halftime.
Hawassa took the lead when center back Bereket Samuel converted from the spot. Hawassa Ketema are third with 53 points. Adama dropped to the Ethiopian Higher League after collecting 39 points.
Adama Ketema were relegated from the league in the 2012/13 season but won promotion within a year. The club dropped to the second division again in the 2020/21 season, but the expansion of the league to sixteen clubs helped them stay in the top flight.
Adama Ketema started off the season under new coach Abdi Buli. Nonetheless, Buli could not turn around years of mismanagement at the club, and they were relegated for the second time.
