Blow for Al Ahly as versatile defender ruled out of Porto clash through injury

Al Ahly have suffered a significant setback ahead of their crucial clash with Portuguese side Porto in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, as key defender Yasser Ibrahim has been ruled out due to injury.

The African giants are set to face Porto in their second match of the group stage on Tuesday at 1:00 AM GMT, as part of the ongoing Club World Cup hosted in the United States.

Dr. Ahmed Gaballah, Al Ahly’s team doctor, confirmed to the club’s official website that Yasser Ibrahim sustained a groin muscle pain during a recent training session.

This pain will force him to miss the upcoming fixture.

The 32-year-old center-back had played the full 90 minutes in both of Al Ahly’s previous group matches — against Inter Miami and Palmeiras — but will now be sidelined at a crucial point in the team’s campaign.

Al Ahly are competing in Group A alongside Inter Miami (USA), Palmeiras (Brazil), and Porto (Portugal), and will be looking to bounce back after failing to secure a win in their first two outings.

Al Ahly need to beat Porto while Palmeiras beat Inter Miami then the goal differences will decide the second placed team in the group between Al Ahly and Inter Miami.
