Ghana midfielder Michael Baidoo seals transfer to Umm Salal SC from Plymouth

Ghana midfielder Michael Baidoo has sealed a loan move to Qatari Stars League side Umm Salal SC ahead of the 2025/26 season.

The 23-year-old joined Plymouth in January 2025 from Swedish outfit IF Elfsborg but struggled to secure regular minutes, making just 13 appearances as the club endured a difficult season that ended in relegation to League One.

Plymouth announced his exit by saying: “Michael Baidoo has signed for Umm Salal SC, a side in the Qatari Stars League, on loan for the season. Baidoo, 26, joined Argyle in January 2025, and made 13 appearances during last season, five of which were starts.

“We are aware that Umm Salal announced Michael’s arrival, unilaterally, early on Saturday. At that stage, while talks were advanced, no agreement had been made, nor had any paperwork been signed. This has now finally been resolved, and the loan deal finalised on Sunday afternoon, so we are now able to share officially.

“We wish Michael all the best during the season.”

Baidoo began his career with the Ghanaian club Vision, and moved to the Danish club Midtjylland in 2018. He made his professional debut with Midtjylland in a 1-1 Danish Superliga tie with FC Nordsjælland on 11 March 2018, and was later loaned out for the rest of the season on August 31, 2018 to FC Fredericia.

Baidoo was called up to a pair of 2015 African U-17 Championship qualification matches for the Ghana U17, but did not make an appearance. He has won two caps for the Ghana U20.

Baidoo made his debut for the Ghana national team, Black Stars, on October 10, 2024 in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium. He repalced Ibrahim Sulemana in the 80th minute of a 0-0 draw.
