Zambia’s 2012 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winner, Francis Kasonde, has landed a coaching job in the ninth tier of English football.
The former Chipolopolo defender has been unveiled as St. Austell FC Under-18 team’s coach. The club is based in South West England, and competes in the Western League Premier Division.
“We are pleased to announce a new addition to the coaching team,” a statement from the team reads. “Joining as a coach is 2012 Africa Cup of Nations winner Francis Kasonde. With his considerable experience in the pro game, Francis will be a fantastic addition.”
The former Forest Rangers FC assistant coach in Zambia, has since reacted to his latest breakthrough, describing his appointment as a big step in his coaching career.
“I am really happy about my appointment as a coach for the reserve team at St. Austell Football Club,” he told Bola News. “I am excited to be given this opportunity to learn and grow my career. Learning is a lifelong process, and this new challenge will develop my skills, allow me to work with talented players, and contribute to the team’s success.”
The former defender had to fight his way into the coaching job, sitting again for his UEFA B Licence despite having a similar badge for CAF, with strict rules in Europe frustrating his efforts to have the CAF B Licence converted into the European equivalent.
