Hayder Sherefa named 2024/25 Ethiopian Premier League Player of the Season

Ethiopian Insurance midfielder Hayder Sherefa has been named the 2024/25 Ethiopian Premier League Player of the Season. The top flight concluded after Insurance beat Sihul Shire 3-0 on Thursday and their captain was presented with the MVP award.

Sherefa joined Insurance from Adama Ketema and won the award in his first season. The Ethiopian international was instrumental in commanding the midfield for Gebremedhin Haile’s side. Sherefa won his fourth league title, making history with Insurance this season by winning the league with a third club. He had previously won the top flight with Mekele 70 Enderta and Saint George.

Sherefa beat his teammates Dawit Tefera and Mohamed Abera, Ethiopian Coffee duo Divine Nwachukwu and Ramkel James, Hawassa Ketema striker Ali Sulieman, and Mechal midfielder Shemeles Bekele. Sherefa received the majority of votes from team captains and coaches but only secured 9% of the fan vote.

Sherefa was also voted Player of the Season by the Ethiopian Professional Footballers Association earlier in the week.
