TNM Super League: Silver Strikers condemn fans’ Juju antics

Malawi’s TNM Super League champions Silver Strikers have condemned the behaviour of fans connected to them for harassing visiting MAFCO FC players during a match on Thursday, July 10, 2025.

During the match, the supporters, on several occasions, invaded Silver Stadium pitch in Lilongwe to pour out substances on some MAFCO players seemingly connected to juju beliefs common in Malawi and African football.

In a show of class, Silver released a statement condemning the behaviour, but fell short of stating that the perpetrators were their supporters.

“Silver Strikers unequivocally condemns the unacceptable behaviour exhibited by individuals during our match against MAFCO FC at Silver Stadium today,” the statement reads.

“During the game, supporters unlawfully entered the pitch and poured a fluid substance on the MAFCO goalkeeper. Additionally, after the final whistle, another individual poured liquid on MAFCO players as they made their way to the tunnel. These acts are alarming and represent a serious breach of sportsmanship and stadium safety regulations.”

The statement adds: “We extend our sincere apologies to the affected MAFCO players, their technical team, match officials, and all supporters present. The club does not condone any form of violence, intimidation or pitch invasion, whether by fans or any individuals claiming to be associated with Silver Strikers.”

The eight-time Super League champions have since launched what they call an internal review of the incidents while promising to cooperate with external investigations on the matter.

The game ended goalless with Strikers remaining in fourth place on the log table, eight points behind leaders FCB Nyasa Big Bullets. MAFCO are in ninth position.
