Minnesota surprisingly fell behind in the first half from a Brian Gutierrez penalty kick shortly after Chicago defender Omar Gonzalez was issued a red card in the 25th minute. However, a strong start to the second half saw halftime substitute Robin Lod equalize less than two minutes after the interval.
Yeboah came on in the 63rd minute and was the perfect option to exploit a tired Chicago defense.
The visitors managed to hold on for the rest of the second half but it did not take long for Yeboah to pounce when Carlos Harvey knocked down an early ball for the former Italy youth international to fire in. In the second half of extra time, Yeboah then outran the Chicago defense to draw and then convert a penalty kick.

After exploding onto the scene in MLS with 9 goals in 12 games after signing during the middle of the 2024 season, Yeboah’s form has cooled a bit but he is shining in cup competitions with 3 goals now in 2 games. The Accra-born forward now has 9 goals in 22 appearances between MLS and US Open Cup play.
Minnesota will await the draw to determine their next cup opponent after the quarterfinals finish on Wednesday. However, the in form club know they will be hosting their semifinal at home venue Allianz Field as well as the final if they advance.
