WAFCON: Ghana chances ‘in our own hands’ against Tanzania – Björkegren

Ghana women’s national team head coach Kim Lars Björkegren believes their qualification chances to the knockout stage of CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) is within reach as they face Tanzania in a Group C fixture at Stade Municipal de Berkane Monday.

The fixture is important for both teams as they stand a chance to qualify with a win. However, any kind of draw will boost Botswana’s chances of going through to the last eight following their dramatic 2-1 win against Tunisia in a Group B clash at Stade Père Jégo on Sunday.

“We have a good feeling. Now, we have everything in our own hands to make sure that we win the game against Tanzania. We were hoping to score more goals in our first two games,” said Björkegren as quoted by CAFOnline.

“We have had enough chances to do it. We’ve had 31 shots at goal and only scored once. We prefer to score more goals, and I know that we will.”

On missing the services of striker Doris Baduawaa, who provided the assist for Alice Kusi’s goal against Mali on Friday, Björkegren said: “We have many players that can play in the nine position. We can even change the formation, but we shall indeed miss Doris.”

Björkegren concluded: “I think we are in a great position. We only need to win one game to play in the quarterfinal. We can be second or third in the group. I still believe in the players. Even if we have one point going into this game.”

In the other group match, South Africa, who have four points, will take on Mali, who are second also with four points.
