Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi has officially returned to full training at Nottingham Forest after recovering from a season ending injury, of the 2024/25 English Premier League season.
The Nigeria international missed the Tricky Trees last two league games of the 2024/25 season due to a severe abdominal injury sustained during Forest’s match against Leicester City. The incident occurred when he collided with a goalpost while attempting to score from a cross.
Despite initially continuing to play after receiving medical attention, Awoniyi’s condition worsened, leading to urgent surgery for a ruptured intestine and being placed in an induced coma.
Awoniyi was however in attendance during Forest’s last game of the campaign against Chelsea at the City Ground after leaving hospital. The 27-year-old is expected to be eased back into action gradually by head coach Nuno Espirito Santo.
