Sudan Elite League: Al-Merrikh near title glory, Al-Hilal keep pressure ahead of decisive clash

The Sudan Elite League reached a thrilling climax this week as the penultimate round of fixtures produced stunning goals and set the stage for a decisive final matchday.

Al-Merrikh Hold Top Spot

Al-Merrikh secured a valuable 1-0 victory over Al-Amal Atbara, thanks to a first-half stoppage-time goal from Ahmed Tabanja.

With this win, they maintained their lead at the top of the standings with 14 points, three clear of their fierce rivals Al-Hilal. A draw in their final fixture would be enough to crown them champions of the Sudan Elite League.

Al-Hilal Respond in Style

Al-Hilal delivered a footballing masterclass as they dismantled Merreikh Al-Abyad with a 5-0 win, all goals coming in a sensational first half.

Star player Mohamed Abdelrahman — known as “El Ghorbal” — led the charge with a magnificent hat-trick, while Jean-Claude added a brace.

This result lifts Al-Hilal to 11 points, keeping their title hopes alive. They now prepare for a decisive clash against Al-Merrikh on July 22, where only victory will do if they are to snatch the title on the final day.

Abdelrahman’s heroics have now taken his all-time tally to 196 goals in all competitions, including 116 goals in the Sudanese Premier League, making him the third-highest scorer in the league’s history.

Al-Zamala Um Rawaba Dominate Again

Al-Zamala Um Rawaba continued their strong campaign, securing a comprehensive 3-0 win over Al-Mirghani Kassala. Khaled Al-Doweem netted twice, with Mohamed Al-Amin adding the third. The win keeps them third with 11 points, behind Al-Hilal only on goal difference.

Al-Ahli Madani Keep Up the Pace

Al-Ahli Madani matched the scoreline with a convincing 3-0 victory against Hay Al-Wadi Nyala. Goals came from Mohamed Bashir, Moaz Al-Bakhakh, and Abdelkader Qaddoura, pushing them to fourth place with 11 points also.
