Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Rivers United have bolstered their squad with the acquisition of experienced goalkeeper John Noble.
Noble joins the Port Harcourt-based club on a free transfer, marking his return to Nigerian domestic football after a stint in Tanzania’s Mainland Premier League with Fountain Gate FC.
The shot stopper is a familiar name to NPFL followers, having previously plied his trade with nine-time NPFL champions Enyimba International FC. He was a key figure for the “People’s Elephant,” playing an instrumental role in their 2023 NPFL title triumph. His consistent performances earned him a move abroad in 2023, where he featured for Tanzanian clubs Tabora United and most recently Fountain Gate.
Noble’s contract with Singida Fountain Gate concluded at the end of the 2024-25 season, making him a free agent and an attractive prospect for clubs seeking experienced hands. Rivers United acted swiftly to secure his services, recognizing the immense value his presence will bring.
The 32-year-old goalkeeper has already started training with Rivers United. His arrival comes at a crucial time for Rivers United, who are preparing for a challenging CAF Champions League campaign next season. The club finished as runners-up in the just-concluded NPFL season, securing a coveted spot in Africa’s premier club competition.
His experience will play a crucial role for Finidi George’s side in CAF Champions League campaign next season.
